Civil Society Organisations
Civil society organisations have been at the forefront of calling for change on these issues for many years: 39 organisations, spanning trade unions, human rights organisations, environment and climate NGOs and many more besides are united in their clear demand for what a new law must look like. Many of these organisations will be familiar, including Amnesty International, Oxfam, Friends of the Earth and the trade union, UNISON.
These organisations are united in their demand because they all believe that human rights abuses and environmental destruction in UK value chains must end and that a new law is a key step towards achieving that. Civil society organisations are actively calling for change in Parliament and many also engage with communities – in the Global North and Global South – that are affected by corporate abuses – so they know only too well the devastating damage that comes from an absence of laws to prevent harm.
